Precious Turmeric

Dusting my meals with turmeric has become a habit. The turmeric jar is always next to me when something is heating on the pan. I don't hesitate to use this (almost) magic spice which has so many benefits for your health.

Inside turmeric is the curcumin which has strong anti-inflammatory powers. The percentage of curcumin in turmeric is rather low but it still fights inflammation. Turmeric also has antioxidants properties. This mindbodygreen article lists 25 benefits of eating turmeric.

Besides all the good it can do to your body, turmeric adds a nice peppery taste to simple dishes. It is perfect with cauliflower rice for instance. And apparently cauliflower is even healthier when eaten with turmeric (not that I am concerned since it would help fighting prostate cancer).

The only thing I dislike with turmeric is the stains it can leave on your dishes. The best way to get rid of it is to act quickly! Otherwise I find baking soda very effective. Food 52 offers other options  to make the stains disappear (white vinegar, lemon...)

Frankly you can sprinkle turmeric over many veggies. It goes well with braised collards and kale. I also use it on tofu heated in olive oil and sea salt. It is a delicious combination and the strong yellow color of the turmeric will always bring life to your plate. Also when you consume turmeric with fat (like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado...) you optimize its absorption.

Turmeric is also often used in drinks, cold or hot. Many juices shops offer drinks with turmeric. I love the "Turmeric Tangerine" from Juice Served Here.

When I can I grab a turmeric shot. I am a huge fan of these little bottles full of benefits for your body. Mixed with coconut water, lemon juice and black pepper, these shots give you a great vitality boost!
